NJHS Criteria


  National Junior Honor Society 2020-2021


The National Junior Honor Society  is a program of the National Association of Secondary School Principals.   NJHS is the nation’s leading organization for recognizing middle level school students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character.  NJHS not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but also challenges them to become well-rounded by encouraging involvement in school activities and community service.

The selection criteria for Norwin National Junior Honor Society is as follows:

Scholarship:  Students must have a grade point average of 92% in major core subjects (not including specials) at the end of the 3rd nine weeks of their 7th grade year with no grades below a C. * Grade point average is calculated by adding all of the core grades from the first 3 nine weeks and dividing by 12. (Averages are NOT rounded).

Service:  Students are evaluated on the voluntary contributions they have made to the school or community without direct financial or material compensation.

Leadership:  Student leaders are often viewed as those students who are resourceful, good problem solvers, collaborative, dependable, involved in school activities, and who are both organized and organizers.

Citizenship:  The student who demonstrates citizenship understands the importance of civic involvement; has a high regard for freedom, justice, and democracy and demonstrates maturity and responsiblility through involvement of activities in both school and community organizations.

Character:  A student of good character upholds principles of morality and ethics; is cooperative and responsible; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern and respect for others; and is a good citizen.   ANY record of Detentions or Suspensions may affect your chances of being considered for membership.


If interested in becoming a member of the Norwin Middle School NJHS in 8th grade, please refer to the selection criteria above.

.  To be considered for membership, you will be asked to fill out an application listing your participation in those areas which might be in and outside activities, leadership experiences and awards.  A detailed explanation of the requirements and an application will be sent to your parents in a future email at the end of the 3rd nine weeks.
