MRS. LEIGHTY – ELA
Greetings! Welcome to my page (or my class).
Here is a little bit about me to help you get to know me better...
Education:
I graduated from Seton Hill University in 2003 with a B.A. in English and my Pennsylvania Teaching Certification. While attending Seton Hill, I was fortunate enough to complete my Student Teaching experience in Norwin, at Middle School East (now Queen of Angels) in 7th grade. I received my Level II Certification from California University of Pennsylvania while working towards my Masters in Advanced Studies in Secondary Education.
Teaching Experiences:
I have been teaching 8th grade ELA in Norwin since 2004! Prior to working at Norwin, I taught English for Life, English 10, and Communications/American Literature for a year at my alma mater, McKeesport Area High School. While in college, I worked as a summer preschool teacher at Creative Adventures and an after-school tutor at Greensburg Salem Middle School. I also assisted with Vacation Bible School for over 10 years.
Personal:
I love iced coffee, reading, chocolate, mini-golf, sour cream and cheddar potato chips, theater, and hockey. I am a huge Penguins fan! I love all things Disney and am obsessed with Harry Potter!!! I grew up in choirs and theater, and I sing semi-professionally for wedding/funeral services. My husband works for the district and is in charge of the stage crews and technical productions in the district. I have a wonderful son named Gavin who is in 11th grade this year. He plays hockey and keeps me busy when I am not at work.
I love to laugh and have fun, but I also have high expectations for my students and expect them to work to their ability. I look forward to working with the Tiger Team students, and I am excited for a great year!
